Good Measure and Running Over

I must admit, I have a problem with a stingy selfish spirit.

It's my pet peeve. I don't like it when we're in a position to help someone and we don't. I'm not talking about helping leeches or people who aren't helping themselves. Trying to help such people is like running in water. You can't do it and you can't go anywhere. I'm referring to us helping people who are helping themselves to do better. Those of us who can help in some way, it doesn't matter how big or small, should do so. Isn't there something each one of us can do for somebody at some point? Isn't there something we possess that God blessed us with that we can bless somebody with? It doesn't always have to be money. Growing up, my mother and aunt loved baking. They always had baking stuff around the kitchen and could whip up a cake in an instant. So guess what people often got from them? Yep, you guessed it, tasty cakes and pies too. Russell Wilson, the professional football player, blesses people by going into hospitals and visiting with them. I'm sure it goes much further, but he's using his time and probably his money, and that's awesome.

Each one of us can add quality of life to somebody. We can give something and when we do that God will ensure we're blessed even more than we are already. Giving is a great thing and the Lord loves a cheerful giver. His word says, "give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you” (Luke 6:38).

That's great isn't it?

God blesses whomever he wants to bless, whenever he wants to bless them

Daily Devotional Podcast. Follow along with blog post. When I was going through a dark time -- when I had nothing -- there was a certain person who helped me sometimes. She helped me whenever she basically felt like it, but she did help, and for that I'm appreciative. But, something interesting happened after I started growing out of my despair. Something interesting started happening when I no longer needed her for anything. And something interesting happened even though I remained kind and grateful towards. The interesting thing that happened was that she started hating on me. She started treating me differently. At first I was really bothered by it, because I thought she and her husband were nice people I wanted in my life. I liked that they had a sense of compassion and were interested in helping people who were down and low. That really appealed to me, because I was raised that way; my mother was raised that way; her mother was raised that way, and it goes back to as fa

Protecting My Peace - Day 98 - Momentum and Movement, That’s What's Up

Click to listen to current podcast episode. “Never Giving Up” are power-words — strong affirmations that give us momentum and movement. That’s what’s up. We can do so much more in our lives when we have momentum and movement. It’s about standing, literally and not sitting or laying around feeling sorry for ourselves. I used to do that once upon a time and that sorrowful thinking is for the birds. We don’t have to be down. We can get up and get going even if we start small. In fact, I love starting small, because it helps set a firm foundation of habits and routines. Momentum and movement will help us get and maintain a position of strength to do what God says we can do. Eagles fly above the storm

Daily Devotional Podcast. Follow along with Blog Post. Are you an eagle? Do you know, eagles fly above the storm and they wait for the winds to carry them to greater heights?  That's right, as the storm is raging below, they are soaring above it all. They don't escape the storm, mind you. They simply use the storm to lift themselves to higher magnitudes. It's a though they know the storm is temporary; that they will indeed rise above it; and that they are riding the storm. I find all of that fascinating, because we can take the model of the eagle and do the same. Why can't we? We can imitate the eagles intelligence, push-through, and perseverance to weather any storm -- the storms of life that will come. If we will just know that God will never give us more than we can handle, then we will come out victorious.  As you going through anything today? Are you worried about anything in particular? Just know, you can rise above it all. Nothing is too big for G
