Proverbs 4: A father's wise instruction Part 1

Proverbs 4 English Standard Version (ESV) Hear, O sons, a father's instruction, and be attentive, that you may gain insight, for I give you good precepts; do not forsake my teaching. When I was a son with my father, tender, the only one in the sight of my mother, he taught me and said to me, “Let your heart hold fast my words; keep my commandments, and live. Get wisdom; get insight; do not forget, and do not turn away from the words of my mouth. Do not forsake her, and she will keep you; love her, and she will guard you.  The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom, and whatever you get, get insight. Prize her highly, and she will exalt you; she will honor you if you embrace her. She will place on your head a graceful garland; she will bestow on you a beautiful crown .”

Proverbs 3   (English Standard Version-ESV Version) My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments, for length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you. Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you;  bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. So you will find favor and good success in the sight of God and man. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones. Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the first fruits of all your produce; then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with w...

Put your requests out there and ask God for what you want

Believe for what you want. Put yourself out there and stop being afraid like I used to be. Ask God for what it is you want from Him. I'm not saying treat Him like Santa Clause. I'm saying, ask Him to guide your life for fruitfulness, for abundance, and for peace, in order that you can be all you can be to help others. That's what this thing called life is about -- helping ourselves to live our best life and helping others do the same. So, yes we have to put our requests out there and ask God for what we want. Then do what we need to do in the process. We don't just sit and wait. We move and continue to move. Movement makes things happen.  "But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind" ( James 1 :6). We ask God for what we want and we stand on those petitions. We don't waver, we don't toss, and we don't turn. We stand firm. It doesn't matter how long it...

Self-control can come as we walk in God's truth

When we exercise self-control, we are usually working on ourselves every day and how we react. Self-control is not always easy for me, but I’m striving for it more and more everyday. Self-control can come to us as we walk in God's truth. Do you know  2 Timothy 1 :7  is scripture we can stand on regarding self control? It's really true. God gives us free-will to chose how we behave and what we think, say, and do. There is so much scripture I can cite on that, but no need, because we have to know for ourselves what thus says the Lord. We have to take the time to look up the scriptures and stand on them. Then we have to continuously speak them over our lives; walk them out, and believe. 2  Timothy 1:7  says God gives us power, love and self-control/self-discipline, which means we have the ability to have an abundant and rich life when we walk in those things. I’m leaning that everyday.

Yes, God hears our prayers

“In the morning, Lord, You hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before You and wait expectantly” ( Psalm 5 :3).  Yes, God hears our prayers .  Not only in the morning, but anytime. Remember that. We need to   know that God is there for us always. The time of day really doesn’t matter, because He's there in the midnight hour, in the noon day,  and  in the morning. That's right, His spirit still hovers over the earth, so keep that in mind whenever you want to "supper" with Him. Let’s focus on the morning though, because that’s a time when many of us are starting our day and it’s an opportune time to spend with the Lord. It doesn’t have to be for hours. Whatever your personality and relationship is with the Lord will determine how long and what that looks like. Just know you don’t have to do what another person is doing. Whatever works for you and God, go with it, because He hears your voice anytime you call on Him.

Stay with God! Take heart. Don’t quit.

So, with him on my side I’m fearless, afraid of no one and nothing.  When vandal hordes ride down ready to eat me alive. Those bullies and toughs fall flat on their faces.  When besieged, I’m calm as a baby. When all hell breaks loose, I’m collected and cool. I’m asking God for one thing, only one thing: To live with him in his house my whole life long. I’ll contemplate his beauty; I’ll study at his feet. That’s the only quiet, secure place in a noisy world. The perfect getaway, far from the buzz of traffic. God holds me head and shoulders above all who try to pull me down. I’m headed for his place to offer anthems that will raise the roof! Already I’m singing God-songs; I’m making music to God.  Listen, God, I’m calling at the top of my lungs: “Be good to me! Answer me!” When my heart whispered, “Seek God,” my whole being replied, “I’m seeking him!” Don’...

Your awesome testimony

Daily Devotional Podcast. Follow along with blog post. Do you know your testimony, your walk, your journey, and what you've gone through in your life, is important to people? Do you know you are special just because you weathered storms and you're still standing? It's true, because God wants to turn your tests into your testimony. There was a woman in John 4:39-42 . She was the Samaritan Woman who spoke to Jesus at the well. She had been through so many things in her life and was rejected by many in society for her mistakes and bad choices, but after her encounter with Jesus, oh my gosh, her life changed for the better. Yes, she wasn't the same person. And when all those who ostracized her and cast her aside, heard her testimony, they said, “we no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world.” They thought, 'wow if she can change so can I.' Many people beli...
